  Dating advice…

Here are a few quick pointers that can aid you in your search for romance with us…

Tip 1

Don’t just sit and wait for other members to send you a message. Making the first move will show you are keen and interesting and will improve your chances considerably.

Tip 2

Make sure your profile is correct and your description is accurate and sounds genuine, sincere and interesting. Read it back and put yourself in the shoes of the person who will be reading it. Ask yourself, would you want to meet you?

Tip 3

Before sending your e-mails spend some time writing your e-mail. Look at what you have written and ask yourself whether you would want to reply to it if you had received it.

Tip 4

Always arrange meetings in public places, never in your own home. Do not reveal your full name, address or home telephone number until you are sure that you wish to continue with the relationship.

Tip 5

Trust your instincts, don't meet again if you have doubts. On your first meeting, make your own way to and from the venue. Leave details of your meeting with family or friends when meeting for the first time.

Tip 6

If you feel uncomfortable about going on that first date, you could arrange a ‘double date’ by placing an ad with a friend. As well as being fun, you can get support from someone else and you can exchange ideas on picking a venue.

Tip 7

To avoid appearing obvious, try asking your date to wear something distinctive, or arrange to meet in a specific spot. That way you will recognise them immediately.

Tip 8

Wear something you feel comfortable in, but make an effort and dress for the occasion.

Tip 9

Agree to go Dutch beforehand to avoid awkward situations at the end of your first date. A coffee or a drink rather than dinner could a good way to meet someone. Also, consider a meeting at lunchtime rather than the evening.

Tip 10

Treat people with respect - if you need to cancel a date for whatever reason, let the person know.

Tip 11

Avoid talking about yourself too much and ask questions. Make sure you listen attentively making them feel at ease and that they are the only person in the room.

Tip 12

Try to establish a common interest early on, so that you can both talk with equal enthusiasm.

Tip 13

Be honest as lying will get you nowhere. You will be found out sooner rather than later.

Tip 14

Make sure your mobile phone is turned off. Taking calls and text messages appear rude, because it means your date has not got your full attention.

Tip 15

Don't get too drunk. Have a few drinks so you are sociable and more laid back but do not drink in excess.

Tip 16

Most importantly, relax, be yourself and follow the safety tips detailed.
